Game review:
-Tethering Faith-

This is my honest opinion, and I was asked to review the game by a friend.

Play it yourself, you might enjoy it, or it might not be your thing; It has a very specific vision. TL;DR, this game page does a really good job on showing you the kind of game it is aesthetically! The music and backgrounds are worth the experience of playing it, even if it's not your thing.

Genre: Side Scrolling Platformer / Visual Novel / Choices Matter -multiple endings-

NOTE: it is called a 'puzzle' game in the description, but there are no puzzles in the actual game, just 3 or 4 choices to make regarding characters' fates.

Overall: OK / Not for me.

A small but unique game with a definite creative vision and hauntingly beautiful music. If you like the style seen in the screenshots above, you'll like the game - it's a world similar to the GBA Castlevania games with a light visual-novel-like side-scrolling gameplay style. Beautiful backgrounds and good sound design.

P.S. If you're stuck on the platforming section, there is a small block platform behind a tree.

The art and music for this game is wonderful. Environments are impressively detailed along with the parallax scrolling foregrounds and backgrounds. Lore is interesting and the writing is great as well as plentiful. Sound design is good, though regarding the wings, I feel like it should be extended and cut off when you touch the ground rather than letting the sound cut off after a few seconds. I like the idea of the choice of either tethering or untethering 2 souls and how some you might want to untether rather than tether for the good ending. If you are interested in doing so yourselves, I would love to see a full version of this game made or something akin to it.

Dax sent me a link to this game and oh my god I'm amazed by how enjoyable this experience was, I decided to take notes of things I liked and a few other notes <3333333

- I love the writting in the beginning, it eases me into the story and the character I'm about to play, im also pretty invested in it

- The silence in the beginning with no music or atmosphere really made the soundtrack hit harder once I went into the game

- THE MUSIC IS HEAVENLY OH MY GODDDD PLEASE THANK YOU

- Music really gives off that gothic church vibe I think thats what you were going for

- Decided to stay in the cathedral for a bit to listen to the soundtrack

- Love how different instruments chime into the song it rlly adds something and makes it less repetitive to listen to

- Idk what that accordian instrument playing is but I love that probably my favourite part

- When the cathedral song finished it cut off harshly and never played again, might need to make the song loop

- The sound design is good, not too loud or quiet and really brings me into the game

- Usually I dont like the animal crossing sort of talk but its not grating to listen to and I kinda like it honestly

- Also tysm for allowing me to speed up the text it can get annoying when you accidentally repeat dialogue and have to wait for them to finish

- The amount of detail put into the background is insane its rlly fucking good, the designs in the cathedral for me hint at a deeper lore, its very interesting

- Omg the little sprites are so cute and the portraits in the dialogue too

- Just went outside and oh my god probably the best background i've seen, the colours and lighting are immaculate

- Went into the forest and that choir hit me like a church bell, Im an absolute sucker for songs that slowly build up, when that synth hit omfgggg

- The music matches perfectly with the scenery (which is stunning btw)

- Im really loving the colour schemes, gives me a magical/mysterious with slightly evil undertones kind of vibe

- I think the sprites contrast really well with the scenery, like it seems all cute and then you realise its more serious when the corpses start appearing

- You made E as an interact button I'm not sure if that was intentional but just letting you know (C is also a jump button)

- The dialogue speed is perfect and doesnt feel too slow or fast, the way they talk is also starting to grow on me (in the sense that the way they talk sounds very innocent while also talking about death)

- Im not sure what village died but I love how instead of being involved in the combat we are instead involved with the aftermath and left with a bunch of questions, hopefully they get answered the more I play

- These rune things in the ground that speak through the fae's POV idk what to say about them but just know that I love it and also how I get to see my players portrait (shes so pretty)

- Personally I find the name font a bit hard to read but I know what it says dw (also love the font choice for the talking)

- Favourite rune is probably the 'Here lies the line of faith' one, hits hard

- I was honestly expecting a little easter egg when I walked all the way left at the bottom of the platformer

- The parkour wasnt too hard, I could see where people might fall, also that one block covering the tree is very cheeky (I did it first try ofc cause im an absolute pro)

- Not rlly a critique but cause of the font I read noah as noob and chuckled a bit

- I pushed the kids body and rlly felt bad when the poor gran started talking to me

- Im really interested in this soul binding cant wait to discover more abt it

- Wow the first few notes of that song rlly hit me when I went into that big building, the sound effects in the bg mixed with the music really creates a perfect ambience

- I like that part where the metal clanging sounds turned into a bell for the music to fade in

- The colour sheme so far has been more blues and reds, but in here its completely red so now im worried smth bads gonna happen here

- I know the music goes silent after it finishes but i think the silence really fits the throne room area, kinda of like a harsh reality hitting and all the bodies plagued and rotting, it makes her footsteps feel much more impactful

- I assume I got the bad ending, all I was left with is some text and a thanks for playing screen, the words felt very poweful, and i felt guilty chosing that ending. I was left with questions unanswered, and I think not getting those answered brings me more guilt. It was a very fun journey and a very beautiful one thanks to the art and music. I also liked the story, I could piece things together as I kept exploring, dark gothic stories are also my favourite anyway so it was very fun! For a game made in a week thats rlly fucking good and I'd rate it a 9/10 (also i didnt notice any spelling errors in the castle dax thought there was a few)

I FINISHED AND OMG!!!!! immediately was drawn to the art style of the game, the backgrounds draw me in so much and make me wonder what kind of world im playing in… it’s pretty yet by the end of the game, I feel more sad within the environment. the colours don’t give off a enchanting look anymore but a prison where the poor souls who died are trapped. especially in the forest where you can’t see too far beyond the trees. the imagery of death was really well done.

the music was fantastic!! Seth, the violin in the second stage was amazing. it sounded so sharp like a knife but in a beautiful way…. Danger thats drawing you in. it definitely made that part of the game my favourite immediately. and dax, other than your super gorgeous art, your composition was excellent! every shot in that stage, with the pillars, positions of the bodies, the doctors and dead ruler… it told me so much of the place. the huge pillars really suited the game well as it felt like it was a entrance to a gory scene when I walked through it every time.
